    Overview

Oplu is leading the search for an experienced Night Maternity Nurse, also known as a Specialist Night Nanny, for a warm same-sex couple welcoming their first baby, based in Regent’s Park, London.

The baby arrives at the end of December 2026. The family returns to their London home at the start of February 2027, when the position begins. The successful candidate will provide overnight coverage for approximately the first six months.

    The Opportunity

The parents are hands-on and want to stay that way. The core purpose of the role is to protect the parents’ sleep, hold the night with confidence and consistency, and support a healthy feeding and sleep pattern from day one. This is not an outsourced-parenting position.

The family also travels occasionally: a UK holiday home and short trips into Europe. The successful candidate travels with the family on those trips and holds the same night rhythm on the road as at home.

A second baby is anticipated in the following year to 18 months, so there is a possibility of a return engagement for the right candidate.

    Who this role suits

This role is best suited to an experienced Night Maternity Nurse or Specialist Night Nanny with a strong track record of newborn night coverage for private families in London.

The right candidate is warm, calm, collaborative, and comfortable working alongside hands-on parents. Not directive. Not proprietary. Confident enough to guide, humble enough to fit into a household rather than run it.

The successful candidate will also be comfortable travelling with the family for a UK holiday home stay or a short European trip when the calendar requires it.

    Key Responsibilities

    Night coverage

    • Provide 12-hour night coverage from 8pm to 8am, 6 nights per week.

    • Take primary responsibility for the baby overnight: feeding, settling, changing, comforting, and monitoring.

    • Support and coordinate feeding with the parents and adapt to the family’s plan.

    • Establish and hold a healthy sleep routine appropriate to the baby’s age.

    • Handle wake-ups, discomfort, and settling without waking the parents unless clinically necessary.

    Handover and parental partnership

    • Deliver clean, concise morning handovers to the parents at 8am, including feeding times, sleep quality, and any observations.

    • Maintain a simple written or app-based log the parents can trust.

    • Work collaboratively with the parents’ own night involvement, particularly around feeding preferences.

    • Communicate any concerns early, calmly, and clearly.

    Newborn wellbeing

    • Monitor the baby’s feeding, weight gain, sleep, and general wellbeing overnight.

    • Recognise clinical red flags and escalate promptly.

    • Maintain a clean, calm, and safe nursery environment.

    • Handle bottle sterilising, baby-related laundry, and nursery restocking as part of the night pattern.

    Travel with the family

    • Accompany the family on ad-hoc travel to a UK holiday home and occasional European trips.

    • Hold the same night pattern and standards on the road as at home.

    Household fit

    • Work discreetly and quietly, integrating alongside a housekeeper present most days and hands-on parents.

    • Respect the family’s routines and boundaries.

    • Handle sensitive information at family level with absolute confidentiality.

    Requirements

    Must-haves

    • Substantial recent experience as a Maternity Nurse, Night Maternity Nurse, or Specialist Night Nanny to private families, with a portfolio of confirmed newborn placements.

    • Age-appropriate sleep-shaping experience for the first six months.

    • Current Paediatric First Aid certification.

    • Enhanced DBS check on file, or willingness to obtain immediately.

    • Warm, calm, collaborative style; comfortable working alongside hands-on parents.

    • Experience with, and willingness to, travel alongside the family, including UK holiday home stays and occasional European trips.

    • Existing right to live and work in the UK.

    • London-based or able to commute reliably to W1.

    • Available to start on or around 1 February 2027 and to commit to up to 6 months.

    Strong advantage

    • Prior experience supporting a same-sex couple household or a first-time-parent household.

    • Sleep training experience for the 4-to-6-month window and beyond.

    • Experience working alongside a hands-on daytime primary caregiver.

    • Additional relevant qualifications, such as Neonatal, Norland, Lactation, or equivalent.

    Preferred background

    • Career maternity nurse who values a warm, collaborative household over a directive one.

    • Comfortable travelling with private families through short holiday stays.

    • Comfortable with a possible return engagement for a second baby within the following 18 months.

    Languages

    • Excellent English, spoken and written.

    Practical Information

    • Live-in is not available for this role.
